Weighbridge Maintenance
Minimising Flood Damage to Weighbridges
The continuing storms have caused extensive flooding in many areas of the UK. If your weighbridge has been submerged at any time then it’s vital to have it checked out to prevent future problems occurring.
Pit weighbridges
This is especially important for pit weighbridges. Junction boxes, cabling, load cells and mounting assemblies can be particularly vulnerable to flooding, especially if non-welded, potted load cells are fitted.
Internal structure
A well-designed weighbridge system fitted with stainless steel IP69K sealed load cells should not be adversely affected by flooding, but build-up of mud and debris around the load cells can affect performance and reduce the effectiveness of any integral lightning protection.
Speak to the experts
Although the user can carry out a number of checks themselves, such as ensuring essential drainage systems have not become blocked, the best policy is to employ a qualified weighbridge expert who can check all essential components and clean load cell assemblies without causing damage. Such companies can also check electrical integrity and cabling, whilst ensuring any peripheral equipment such as automatic traffic barriers have not been affected.
